The new "Buratino" has grossed over 2 billion rubles.

Box office takings for the new "Buratino" have exceeded 2 billion rubles. According to the website of the Unified Federal Automated Information System of film screening data in cinemas (EAIS) of the Cinema Fund, the Russian children's film "Buratino" collected almost 2.006 billion rubles at cinema box offices over the New Year holidays. As of January 11, the new retelling of the story about the wooden boy had been seen by more than 3.7 million people. As previously reported, the screen adaptation of the fairy tale, released widely on January 1, earned over 226.6 million rubles on its first day of screening. Notably, the new picture was released exactly 50 years after the premiere of the Soviet TV film "The Adventures of Buratino," which was presented to viewers on January 1, 1976.

Recall that the new film by director Igor Voloshin is a modern interpretation of Alexei Tolstoy's fairy tale The Golden Key, or the Adventures of Buratino. A nostalgic touch for fans of the older version was the participation of composer Alexei Rybnikov. A People's Artist of Russia and the author of the original 1975 soundtrack, he wrote music for the new film as well; his legendary melodies also feature in the movie. It is known that the cast includes Vitaliya Kornienko, Alexander Yatsenko, Fyodor Bondarchuk, Viktoriya Isakova, Alexander Petrov, Anastasia Talyzina and other well-known actors.

It is also recalled that ahead of the New Year the Russian Minister of Culture Olga Lyubimova attended the premiere of the fairy tale.

The film was presented by the producers Fyodor Bondarchuk, Mikhail Vrubel, Alexander Andryushchenko, Channel One general director Konstantin Ernst, and director Igor Voloshin. "I am sure the new film about Buratino will draw many viewers to cinemas across our country during the New Year holidays," — the head of the federal Ministry of Culture commented on the film. (6+)
