How will the New Year's holidays affect Nizhny Novgorod residents' January salaries?

In Russia, January is traditionally the shortest working month of the year due to the large number of public holidays and days off. This time Russians have 12 days off — from December 31 to January 11 inclusive. How this will affect salary payments was explained by Alexander Yuzhalin, head of the legal practice at SuperJob.
The expert explained that for employees who receive a fixed salary, the long holidays will not be a reason for a reduction in income. In accordance with Article 112 of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, the number of non-working public holidays in a month does not affect the amount of the established salary. This means that those who work on a salaried system will not lose money because of the New Year holidays.
At the same time, for employees whose pay depends on the number of hours worked or the amount of work performed (for example, under piecework pay or an hourly rate), the situation may be different. Their January payments will depend on the actual time worked or the volume of tasks completed.
If during the period from January 1 to 8 such employees do not work, the employer is obliged to pay them additional compensation. Its amount is set by the company's internal documents. In the case of working on non-working public holidays, pay must be made at double the rate.
In addition, Alexander Yuzhalin reminded that employees may feel that the advance for the first half of January turned out to be unusually small. This is because, according to the law, wages are paid twice a month — as an advance and as the final settlement at the end of the month. Since there will be few working days in the first half of January, the advance amount will be smaller than usual.
However, the final payment for the second part of the month will be higher than usual. Thus, in total for January, a salaried employee will receive the same amount of payments as in other months.
Earlier it was reported that in 2026 Nizhny Novgorod residents will have nearly four months off.
