Chkalov Airport in Nizhny Novgorod temporarily became an alternate airport for the Moscow aviation hub due to restrictions on the arrival and departure of aircraft in the capital. Over the past 24 hours it received nine passenger flights that were bound for Moscow airports, the airport's press service reported.

By decision of the crews, passengers waited for departure either on board the aircraft or in the terminal. Airline representatives provided the necessary support.

By morning all flights accepted as alternates had departed for their destinations — the Moscow airports — as the flight restrictions had been lifted.

Earlier it was reported that the first flight to land at the Nizhny Novgorod airport in 2026 arrived from Sochi.
