The New Year trees installed in Semyonov and Chkalovsk have been included in the project to implement cities' tourist codes, carried out by the Nizhny Novgorod Region as part of the national project "Tourism and Hospitality." This was reported by the regional Ministry of Tourism and Crafts.
The head of the relevant ministry, Sergey Yakovlev, said that in 2025 work on implementing the tourist code was carried out in two small towns of the region — Semyonov and Chkalovsk. One stage of the project was the installation of New Year trees whose designs reflect local characteristics and symbols of the areas. The tree in Semyonov exceeds 21 meters in height, and in Chkalovsk — over 13 meters. According to the minister, the festive decorations continued the visual branding of the towns, attracted tourists' attention and emphasized their uniqueness.

Darya Shorina, head of the Institute for Urban Environment Development of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, emphasized that the concept for decorating the trees is based on the idea of each place's authenticity. Semyonov has long been known for Khokhloma painting — the most recognizable Russian handicraft — as well as traditions of working with wood. Therefore, on the tree installed on Lenin Square, elements of the "new Khokhloma," presented a year ago on Red Square and in Semyonov itself, have appeared. Among the decorations are matryoshkas, firebirds and wooden spoons made by local craftsmen.
For Chkalovsk, the birthplace of the legendary Soviet pilot Valery Chkalov, a different concept was chosen: the festive tree is decorated with symbols of the sky and clouds, as well as unique ornaments — models of the ANT-25 aircraft, whose design was developed by specialists from the Institute for Urban Environment Development. As Shorina noted, the clouds and light garlands create the effect of a tree immersed in a starry sky.

Recall that the national project "Tourism and Hospitality," initiated by Russian President Vladimir Putin, succeeded the national project "Tourism and the Hospitality Industry." Its objectives include developing tourist infrastructure, producing equipment, training personnel, promoting travel around Russia, as well as ensuring service quality and travel safety.
