A 19-year-old resident of Nizhny Novgorod fell victim to fraud while attempting to buy an expensive smartphone from a private seller. The transaction took place in the parking lot of a shopping center on Piskunova Street. This was reported by the regional Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

According to the young man, he handed over to a stranger his mobile phone worth 40,000 rubles and 4,400 rubles in cash in exchange for an allegedly latest model of the gadget. However, it soon turned out that the box contained a counterfeit.

A criminal case has been opened in connection with the incident. Police identified the suspect and detained him in Moscow during an official business trip. He was a 24-year-old resident of Krasnodar, previously convicted multiple times for property crimes.

The man admitted guilt, and the victim’s losses have been fully compensated.

The police remind people to exercise caution when buying from strangers. A low price, haste and lack of guarantees are signs of possible fraud. Do not fall for suspicious offers, especially in face-to-face meetings.

Earlier it was reported that police detained a repeat offender in the Lukoyanovsky district for a series of thefts. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has a Telegram channel. Subscribe to stay informed about the main events, exclusive materials and operational information.
