Nizhny Novgorod residents were reminded of the rules for handling pyrotechnics.

      On the eve of the New Year and during the long holiday period, the risk of accidents related to the improper use of pyrotechnic products increases. Firecrackers in the hands of children are especially dangerous, emphasized the Municipal Institution "Civil Defense and Emergency Situations Administration of the city of Nizhny Novgorod."

      The institution noted that it is parents who should be especially vigilant and explain to children in advance how pyrotechnics can be dangerous.

      According to the head of the city's Civil Defense and Emergency Situations Department, Mikhail Baranov, carelessness when using firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices occurs not only among children but also among adults. Parents need to tell children about the potential risks, since firecrackers, like matches, are not toys. Baranov also added that most incidents are associated either with violations of operating rules or with the use of low-quality and uncertified products.

      The Municipal Institution "Civil Defense and Emergency Situations Administration of Nizhny Novgorod" urges strict compliance with the basic rules for using pyrotechnics:

      – it is forbidden to use pyrotechnic devices indoors, on roofs, balconies, loggias, as well as on stages during mass events; use is unacceptable on the territories of fire-hazardous and explosive facilities, near power lines, at cultural heritage sites and in other places with large gatherings of people;

      – do not use pyrotechnics that are past their expiration date, show signs of damage, lack instructions, or lack a certificate of conformity;

      – before ignition, you must carefully study the instructions;

      – the launch site must be level; there should be no trees or power lines nearby, and the distance to people and buildings should be at least 50 meters;

      – after lighting, you must not lean over the device or hold it in your hands.

      In case of fire, you should immediately report it by calling: 101, 112, 268-11-00.

      It should be recalled that in the Volga capital special sites have been designated where fireworks can be launched. Launching fireworks near residential buildings is prohibited.
