Nizhny Novgorod residents were told which sweets are best to avoid on New Year's.
27 December 2025, 17:27 — Society. Nutritionist Ekaterina Kulova compiled a list of New Year’s treats that should be avoided for the sake of health. The negative ranking was published on the Telegram channel of the editor-in-chief of the medical outlet "Stacionar-press", Alexey Nikonov.
Gummy bears and gummy worms ended up on the blacklist. According to experts, up to 80% of their composition is sugar, molasses, artificial colorings and flavorings. The negative ranking also includes cookies that contain palm oil and fats that are of no benefit to the body. It is also better to refrain from consuming lollipops like Chupa Chups. These sweets are a source of excess sugar and colorings. "Exploding" caramel irritates the mucous membranes of the mouth and stomach.
The specialist also does not recommend packaged juices, nectars and fruit drinks. They contain few natural ingredients but a lot of sugar and acids — up to half of the total volume. Chewing gum also made the list. The flavorings in it can damage a child's sensitive mucous membranes. In addition, children often swallow gum or stick it up their nose or into their hair.
At the same time, Ekaterina Kulova emphasized that children should not be completely forbidden from sweets from New Year’s gifts. She explained that even if a child eats a lot of sweets at once, this will not lead to immediate sugar addiction, appetite problems, tooth decay or weight gain.
The nutritionist advises adults not to go overboard with control and to allow themselves and their children to enjoy the holiday. According to her, the harm from sweets arises only with regular and excessive consumption.
Earlier, specialists from the regional office of Rospotrebnadzor explained how to properly choose a sweet New Year’s gift, and narcologist Vitaly Kholdin warned about the dangers of candies with alcoholic fillings.
