Work to create a cultural space in the building of the former Aquarium café on Bolshaya Pokrovskaya Street is planned to be completed by the end of 2026. This was reported to NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" by the press service of Lobachevsky State University of Nizhny Novgorod.
Talks about adapting the building, which is federally owned, for the needs of the university have been underway for more than a year. In 2024 the Russian Ministry of Science and Education presented the project and cost-estimate documentation for renovating the property at 9 Universitetsky Lane. The building was included in the capital repair program on the condition of co-financing by the federal agency.
In the summer of 2024 the exterior finishing of the building on Pokrovka was completed, while additional funds were required for the interior. It was reported that an exhibition center, a coworking space, and office premises would open in the renovated building.
In March 2025 it emerged that the university would receive federal funds for the planned project. However, the exact amount was not disclosed.
And on December 24, at a meeting of the university's Academic Council, Rector Oleg Trofimov said that a cultural center with a museum space would be created on Pokrovka. "This is a landmark project within the framework of the university's third mission," he emphasized.
The NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" editorial office asked the university's press service for details. They said that funds to complete the repairs in the former "Aquarium" would be allocated next year.
"All work should be completed by the end of 2026," they added.
