Nizhny Novgorod State University named after Lobachevsky (NNSU) plans to create a cultural center with a museum space on Bolshaya Pokrovskaya Street. This was reported by the university's rector, Oleg Trofimov, while delivering a report at a meeting of the university's Academic Council.
According to him, this is a landmark project as part of the university's third mission.
According to NIA "Nizhny Novgorod", it concerns the building of the former "Aquarium" café near the university's philology faculty. Moreover, in March the rector told journalists that the renovated space could open in 2025.
"Frankly, it's even a little embarrassing that such a space is standing empty on one of the city's main streets, where there are always many tourists," Trofimov admitted.
Recall that the project and estimate documentation for the site was submitted to the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education back in 2024. The building was included in the major renovation program on the condition of co-financing by the federal agency.
The editorial office of NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has requested updated information on this project from the university.
