The denial of parole for former Nizhny Novgorod head Oleg Sorokin has been ruled lawful.
As reported by the Omsk Regional Court on December 24, the ruling of the Kuibyshev District Court was left unchanged.
In March 2019, Oleg Sorokin was sentenced to 10 years in prison and fined 460 million rubles. He was found guilty of accepting a particularly large bribe and of being an accomplice in a kidnapping. The former head of Nizhny Novgorod is serving his sentence in a strict-regime penal colony.
In the autumn of 2025 the former official’s lawyer petitioned for parole for his client, but it was denied. Sorokin then filed an appeal.
It should be added that in December an additional 1.4 billion rubles were recovered from Sorokin and his ex-wife Elada Nagornaya.
