      A resident of Balakhna has been declared wanted in a case involving the embezzlement of payments intended for participants of the Special Military Operation (SMO). As reported by the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee for the Nizhny Novgorod Region, 51-year-old Balakhna native Sergei Shipulin is wanted in connection with suspicion of involvement in the activities of several criminal groups that appropriated payments due to participants of the Special Military Operation. Any information about the wanted person can be reported by calling the investigative department’s trust line at 8 (831) 268-03-33 or “Child in Danger!” at short number 123 (for calls from other regions 8 (831) 268–03-34). As previously reported, criminal cases are being investigated against several — eight — citizens. According to the investigation, in the period from 2024 to 2025, fictitious marriages and powers of attorney to manage finances were arranged with the aim of stealing payments due to participants of the Special Military Operation. The amount of illegally obtained funds exceeded 4 million rubles. In addition, one of the suspects, realizing that his illegal actions might be reported to law enforcement, gave an acquaintance an alcohol-containing liquid; after drinking it, the man and four other people who were with him died from methyl alcohol poisoning.
