Almost 300 students are participating in the pilot of a new physics teacher training program in Nizhny Novgorod.

      Minin University piloted its own educational model for training physics teachers; it takes into account the age-specific characteristics of young people during their individualization in the profession — from the moment of university admission to the start of teaching in schools — and provides for individual learning tracks. The program "Introduction to the Teaching Profession of a Physics Teacher" was developed under a state assignment from the Russian Ministry of Education in 2025 and is planned for rollout in the regions.

      Since the beginning of the academic year, 295 students have been studying under the new multi-track program. Of these, 95 are students at Minin University enrolled in the 44.03.05 "Pedagogical Education (with two training profiles)" program, profile "Mathematics and Physics," and 120 are students from other natural science pedagogical programs. Another 70 students from non-pedagogical programs at partner universities were also involved in the pilot.

      "This is a modern approach in education — to regard the person as the chief value, placing their development, self-realization and agency at the forefront, rather than merely the transmission of knowledge. The multi-track training model developed by the university allows us to step-by-step, individually form in students with different entry profiles a coherent system of professional psychological and pedagogical knowledge, to develop their engineering thinking and their abilities to organize the teaching of physics to children — engagingly and systematically, promoting engineering thinking from an early age," notes Minin University Rector Viktor Sdobnyakov.

      To build an individual pathway, students are offered a map of seven modules: from the module "Choosing the Teaching Profession" to the module "Design in the Teaching Profession." Based on Minin University's eLearning digital platform (a modular software system), the organization of remote, in-person and blended learning is ensured, students are integrated into the engineering physics laboratory, and diagnostics and monitoring are carried out.

      "Minin University creates teacher-innovators capable of turning school physics into the laboratory of the future," says the project leader, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Andragogy and Development Management at Minin University Galina Ignatyeva. "The advantages lie in the aspect of students' motivation and personal responsibility for their professional development and the growth of engineering thinking (+32%)."
