A video of the detention of the first deputy mayor of Nizhny Novgorod, Sergey Egorov, has been released. The footage was shared by the press service of the regional directorate of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs.
As previously reported, a criminal case was opened against the official under Part 3 of Article 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (receiving a bribe through an intermediary in a significant amount). The detention took place on December 2.
According to the investigation, between February and August of this year the official received a bribe through an intermediary in exchange for facilitating the organization of illegal commercial activity in Nizhny Novgorod.
He will soon be charged and a pretrial measure of restraint will be chosen.
Recall that Egorov took the vice-mayor’s seat after Ilya Shtokman’s dismissal in August 2025. Shtokman is currently in a pretrial detention center (SIZO) in a case involving a multi‑million‑ruble bribe. He was transferred to Moscow.
Earlier the mayor’s office said it was assisting law enforcement.
