Nizhny Novgorod doctors revived an athlete after cardiac arrest.

      Doctors at the Vorotynsk Central District Hospital saved the life of a young athlete whose heart suddenly stopped right in the inpatient ward.

      According to chief editor of MIA "Stacionar-press" Aleksey Nikonov, the professional coach went to the emergency department on her own complaining of high blood pressure. During an ECG, doctors detected an arrhythmia. The patient was immediately hospitalized and moved to a ward for observation.

      However, shortly after admission her condition sharply deteriorated: the woman stopped breathing and her heart stopped — clinical death occurred.

      A team of specialists fought for her life: resuscitation specialist Aleksey Iorin, cardiologist Evgeniya Prokhorova and head of the therapeutic department Natalya Kostyuk. The heart rhythm was restored only after the third shock from a defibrillator.

      After her condition stabilized, the patient was transferred to the intensive care unit, where cardiologist Alexander Lisin of the Makaryev Interdistrict Medical Center monitored her recovery.

      A week later the woman was referred to the Nizhny Novgorod Cardio Center, where a cardioverter-defibrillator was implanted.

      The patient has now returned home and feels well.

      Earlier it was reported that the first kidney transplant in the Nizhny Novgorod Region was completed successfully.
