Nizhny Novgorod's Torpedo suffered a heavy defeat to Moscow's Dynamo in the first game of the road series. The match took place on December 1 in the capital and ended 4:0 in favor of the hosts.
The match coincided with the All-Russian Hockey Day, but there was nothing to celebrate for Nizhny fans. Before the game the team lost captain Aleksey Kruchinin, who was listed as injured. Defender Sergey Boykov was also left off the roster.
Already in the first period Dynamo struck twice within 18 seconds, converting a power play first in a 5-on-3 situation and then in a 4-on-3.
In the second period the visitors scored the third goal, and some time later the hosts made it 4:0. After that Torpedo's coaching staff made a goalie change: Ivan Kulbakov replaced Denis Kostin.
In the third period the Nizhny Novgorod side tried to turn the game around, played actively, created chances and even outshot their opponents. However, they failed to convert a single opportunity. The final siren recorded a 4:0 score in Dynamo's favor.
For Torpedo this is their second consecutive defeat. Despite the setback, the team retains fourth place in the Western Conference standings. However, the Moscow club now trails by just one point.
Next match (6+) Torpedo will also play in Moscow. On December 3 Aleksey Isakov's side will face CSKA.
