In Nizhny Novgorod, a 91-year-old pensioner fell victim to scammers. The fraudsters contacted the woman claiming to be her daughter, who had supposedly gotten into trouble. The press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the region shared details of the incident.
The criminals convinced the pensioner that her daughter was in the hospital and needed a large sum for treatment. The woman did not verify the caller’s words and handed her savings of 400,000 rubles, wrapped in a towel, to a courier.
After receiving the money, the scammers ceased communication, and the pensioner reported the incident to the police. A criminal case has been opened. Law enforcement officers are establishing all the circumstances of the incident and the identities of the perpetrators. Nizhny Novgorod residents are reminded to be vigilant when receiving such calls. If you receive messages about problems with relatives, it is recommended to immediately end the call and call the relative back yourself to verify the information.
