A resident of Nizhny Novgorod swindled 1.5 million rubles from Mordovia residents under the pretext of legal assistance.

      A resident of the Nizhny Novgorod region will stand trial for a series of frauds committed under the guise of legal activity. This was reported by NTA-Privolzhye.

      According to the investigation, the 28-year-old man acted as part of an organized group. From August 2021 to September 2022, while in the office of an alleged law firm in Saransk, he offered residents of Mordovia fictitious legal services.

      Under this pretext he fraudulently obtained and tried to obtain money from 49 people. The total damage exceeded 1.5 million rubles.

      The accused has already been charged under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud committed by an organized group causing significant harm to a citizen), as well as under Part 3 of Article 30 and Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (attempted fraud).

      During the investigation the man fully admitted his guilt and entered into a pre-trial cooperation agreement with the prosecutor. In addition, he partially compensated the damage, returning more than 770,000 rubles to the victims.

      The criminal case has already been sent to the Leninsky District Court of Saransk. The maximum punishment provided by law for such crimes is up to 10 years' imprisonment. The investigation into other members of the criminal group is ongoing.

      Earlier it was reported that a student from Kstovo involved a classmate in bank card fraud.
