Nizhny Novgorod Catholics have won the return of the church on Studenaya.

      A historic building on Studyonaya Street in Nizhny Novgorod has officially been returned to the ownership of the Catholic parish of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This was reported by pravda-nn.ru.

      The transfer deed was signed on November 26. The keys to the property have already been handed over to representatives of the parish.

      The parish priest, Georgy Kromkin, said that the first stage will be an engineering and technical inspection of the building. After that, specialists will begin restoring the heating, water supply and electrical systems.

      According to the clergyman, when developing the architectural concept they plan to recreate the church's historic appearance as it was in the 1910s. Design work will take several months, while the implementation of the engineering and construction phase, according to preliminary estimates, will last about a year.

      Earlier it was reported that British former MP and Labour Party leader George Galloway admired the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral at the Strelka in Nizhny Novgorod.
