Kalinin School in the Vetluzhsky District reopened after major renovations.

      On 21 November, the Kalinin School in the Vetluzhsky Municipal District reopened after a major renovation. The event’s honored guests included Deputy Governor of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast Andrey Checherin, State Duma deputy Artem Kavinov, Deputy Chairman of the regional Legislative Assembly Denis Bakiev, and head of local government of the Vetluzhsky Municipal District Sergey Lavrenov. Students and teachers of the educational institution, as well as members of the school’s parent council, took part in the celebrations.

      According to the regional Ministry of Education and Science, the school in the workers’ settlement named after M.I. Kalinin was built in the mid-1990s. Over the years the building had deteriorated by more than 45%. It was necessary to replace the roof, insulate the facade, carry out a major overhaul of all engineering systems and virtually all interior spaces. In addition, it was important to implement new fire-safety solutions and create an accessible environment for students with disabilities.

      “In the autumn of 2023 local residents, including representatives of the school’s parent committee, appealed to the regional government. People from Nizhny Novgorod asked to consider the possibility of a major renovation of the building, and the Ministry of Education and Science submitted a corresponding application at the federal level. As a result, Kalinin School was included in the ‘Modernization of School Education Systems’ program and large-scale repairs began. We kept our word: two years later children, their parents and teachers have essentially received a completely new school. You want to learn here, you want to develop — you can see it in the children’s eyes! I congratulate the Vetluzhsky District on this wonderful event!” said Deputy Governor of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast Andrey Checherin.

      According to Sergey Lavrenov, the changes that have taken place at the school can truly be called grandiose.

      “The renovated school is not just beautiful walls and comfortable desks. It is a symbol of hope, faith in the future and an investment in the rising generation. Now the children of Kalinin have every opportunity for successful study and comprehensive development. This is a new stage in the life of Kalinin School, which will undoubtedly be filled with great achievements,” said the head of the municipality.

      According to the regional ministry of education, the total investment in the school’s major renovation amounted to 138.5 million rubles. In addition, more than 11.8 million rubles were allocated to purchase equipment necessary for organizing the educational process.

      The building now features attractive lobbies and comfortable modern classrooms, including technology, robotics, physics, chemistry and biology rooms. A fully equipped food unit, dining room, sports hall and conference hall have been installed, and a scenic reading room was created for children on the school’s heated veranda. As a result of the overhaul, Kalinin School acquired a Digital Educational Environment Center and a “Tochka Rosta” classroom.

      The new learning opportunities will benefit 120 pupils and another 20 teachers of the educational institution.

      “We are very grateful to the regional government for keeping its promise and for understanding that schools are important everywhere, even in the most remote settlements of the region. It will be a pleasure to learn and discover new things in the new school. We are confident that now our children will achieve even greater success,” said the school parent committee representative, mother of two pupils Ekaterina Busygina.

      The regional government reminded that Kalinin School became a participant in the federal project “School of Dreams.” Students from the Nizhny Novgorod State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering developed the design project for the renovation of the educational institution. The wishes of the pupils themselves and their mentors were taken into account.

      “I want to express my gratitude to the school designers for their work. They are true professionals — they made our school modern and unusual. The students approached the project development unconventionally and creatively! We are very happy to see our school so beautiful!” thanked ninth-grade student of Kalinin School Olga Yuferova.
