On Higher Education Teachers’ Day, November 19, 70 teachers from Nizhny Novgorod universities received regional awards for professional achievements. This year the holiday was celebrated in the country for the fifth time. A ceremonial event dedicated to the milestone date was held at the Platform Center for Special Projects in Nizhny Novgorod.
“In our region more than five thousand higher education teachers work, and their knowledge is adopted by over one hundred thousand students. This is enormous work and dedication to their vocation. Our scientists and our education are valued worldwide! This is the result of teachers not only being result-oriented but also constantly learning themselves, inspiring the younger generation to move forward in science,” emphasized Lyubov Shirokova, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of the Nizhny Novodod Region.
Lyubov Shirokova presented the governor’s and the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region’s awards to 31 staff members from the region’s university faculty. These are teachers who demonstrated high performance based on the results of the past academic year.
Two teachers received the Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region’s Certificate of Honor, and five more teachers received the Governor’s Honorary Diploma.
For many years of conscientious work in the field of education, high achievements in professional activities and a significant contribution to the training of qualified personnel, nine teachers were presented with the Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region’s Letter of Appreciation. Another twelve teachers received letters of appreciation from the regional government. In turn, the Honorary Diploma “For Merit in the Training of Scientific-Pedagogical and Scientific Personnel in the Nizhny Novgorod Region” was awarded to three specialists.
As noted by the regional Ministry of Education, another 39 members of the faculty of the region’s universities received honorary certificates from the ministry.
“It is very good that Higher Education Teachers’ Day has become an independent holiday. After all, it is precisely the teachers who pass on professional knowledge and skills to students. A modern university teacher must always be on the same wavelength as their students so that students take an interest in the subject and achieve success,” emphasized Natalia Shmeleva, Dean of the Faculty of Economics of the Nizhny Novgorod Institute of Management — a branch of the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA).
“A teacher at a modern university, always riding the crest of scientific discoveries and educational innovations, inspires students to reach heights of knowledge and mastery. Only demanding standards for the quality of teaching and high expectations can reveal the true potential of each student and lead to outstanding results,” noted Tatyana Romanova, Senior Research Fellow of the Department of Humanities at the National Research University Higher School of Economics — Nizhny Novgorod.
