      In Nizhny Novgorod, criminal investigation officers detained a 44-year-old woman suspected of a series of pickpocketings on public transport, the press service of the regional Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported.

      According to police, from August to November 2025, police departments in four city districts — Avtozavodsky, Leninsky, Nizhegorodsky and Sovetsky — received complaints from affected passengers.

      The total damage caused by the perpetrator exceeded 170,000 rubles. As investigators established, the suspect, previously convicted of similar crimes, spent the stolen money on personal expenses and discarded the wallets and other items.

      Criminal cases have been opened against the woman under Part 2 of Article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation — theft. During the preliminary investigation she is under a written undertaking not to leave. The article's penalty provides for up to five years' imprisonment.

      Earlier, the detention of a resident of the Leningrad Region suspected of stealing mobile phones in Nizhny Novgorod shopping centers was reported.
