In Nizhny Novgorod, a monument symbolizing Russian freedom is planned to be erected on the historic territory of the Strelka, the press service of the Russian Military Historical Society (RMHS) reported.
An open creative competition (18+) officially launches today in Moscow, within which architects and artists will be able to submit their ideas for the future monument. The aim of the competition is to find the most expressive architectural and artistic solution that will embody the monument's concept.
It is noted that the installation site was not chosen at random — it is the Nizhny Novgorod Strelka, the territory of the former river port, opened for public access in 2021 as part of the city's 800th anniversary celebrations.
According to RMHS representatives, the Strelka is currently in the process of forming a new identity. Experts emphasize that here historical memory and cultural heritage coexist with the idea of creating a comfortable urban environment for living and recreation.
The image of Kuzma Minin — one of the symbols of popular unity and selfless service to the Motherland — could serve as inspiration for the future monument. His figure is being considered as a possible foundation for the monument's artistic concept, the RMHS added.
It was previously reported that a monument to the liquidators of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident will be installed in Sarov.
