      Officers of the FSB Directorate for the Nizhny Novgorod Region uncovered and disrupted the activities of an interethnic criminal group that organized a large channel for the illegal stay of foreign nationals in Russia, the department’s press service reported.

      It was established that seven members of the group used formally legal construction companies to fictitiously employ migrants. They also arranged forged registrations of place of residence in the region.

      Thanks to these actions, foreign nationals obtained and reissued patents for employment, as well as extended temporary residence permits and residence permits.

      As a result of the implementation of the unlawful scheme, more than 5,000 migrants were illegally legalized in the region.

      The FSB investigative department has opened criminal cases under subparagraphs "a" and "v" of part 2, as well as part 3 of Article 322.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

      Operational-search activities are currently ongoing to identify accomplices and determine all the circumstances of the criminal activity.
