In the Sovetsky District of Nizhny Novgorod, the installation of almost 100 new surveillance cameras at the busiest pedestrian crossings has been completed. Mayor Yuri Shalabaev reported this on his Telegram channel.

According to him, cameras have been installed in the underpasses near the Sports Palace, on Lyadov Square (both from Belinsky Street and from Timiryazev Street), as well as in the pedestrian overpass on Gagarin Avenue. All equipment is already connected and operational. The footage from the cameras is broadcast in color to the monitors.

"I really want this information to especially reach those who allow themselves to paint over the walls of the underpasses, break light bulbs, smash tiles, and throw garbage on the ground. All this damage can be repaired, but your contemptuous attitude toward the city and its people probably cannot. In the event of a law violation, the cameras will be a good aid for law enforcement in applying deserved punishment," the mayor warned.

Earlier it was reported that since the beginning of the year the cameras have recorded almost 2 million traffic violations in the Nizhny Novgorod region.
