31 October 2025 17:38 IncidentsThe criminal investigation into bribe-taking by an auditor and four employees of the Accounts Chamber of the Nizhny Novgorod Region has been completed. This was reported by the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the region.

In 2023 the region gave the administration of the Semyonovsky District money to build a new school. In November–December, Accounts Chamber employees conducted a scheduled audit of the efficiency of the use of the allocated funds and identified violations totaling more than 20 million rubles.

But the auditor and four inspectors agreed to turn a blind eye to the violations in exchange for a bribe of 1.4 million rubles from the contractor. As a result, the inspection report did not contain a word about the deficiencies.

According to the Investigative Committee, the Accounts Chamber employees released the construction company from liability and created conditions for the unobstructed commissioning of the facility.

In addition, the auditor and several inspectors repeatedly received bribes for inserting false data about the identified violations into the final inspection reports and reports on the results of control measures. As a result, the organizations were exempted from penalty sanctions. The total amount of illegally obtained funds exceeded 2 million rubles.

In May 2024 all were detained: both those who took the bribe and the one who gave it. The unlawful actions of the suspects were uncovered by investigators of the Investigative Committee in cooperation with operatives from the regional FSB directorate and the Economic Security and Anti‑Corruption Department of the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The court remanded three of the defendants in pretrial detention, and placed the others under house arrest.

The Nizhny Novgorod Investigative Committee reported that sufficient evidence of the defendants’ guilt has been collected. The criminal case has been referred to the prosecutor’s office and will then be sent to court.

It was previously reported that witnesses refuted Kondrashov’s collusion with the alleged bribe‑giver.

Also in October it became known that the FSB uncovered a scheme involving inspections and bribes in the Nizhny Novgorod branch of the National Guard.
