RST reported how the powerful Hurricane Melissa affected Cuba's resorts.

      Hurricane "Melissa", one of the most powerful in history, struck Cuba's eastern coast on October 28. But thanks to timely measures taken by Cuban authorities, the country's main tourist areas remained virtually untouched.

      The Russian Union of the Tourism Industry (RST) told 360.ru that only a few hotels in Holguín Province, not included among popular tourist sites, were affected by the hurricane. Minor damage was also reported in some other areas.

      Cuba's main resorts, located in the northwest of the island, were not affected by the hurricane. Local authorities carried out a preemptive partial evacuation of residents from vulnerable areas. In Havana and Varadero, where popular tourist destinations are located, officials limited themselves to warnings about a temporary deterioration in weather conditions. A full evacuation was not required.

      Cuba's tourism infrastructure continues to operate as usual. According to vacationers, the weather did not affect their stay in Cuba.

      RST emphasized that it is closely monitoring the situation and is ready to promptly inform Russian tourists of any changes.

      Hurricane "Melissa", which became one of the most destructive in the Caribbean region, also hit Jamaica and Haiti. These countries suffered severe damage, and the death toll exceeded 50 people.
