More and more young people in Russia are choosing volunteering as a way of self-realization and participation in public life. Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education Olga Petrova said that nearly half of applicants to universities already have a personal volunteer booklet.
According to her, students today have a sincere desire to help others and to do good deeds on an ongoing basis.
At the National Research University "Presidential Academy," this direction is given special attention. As its director Ekaterina Lebedeva said, one of the key programs here has become the "Service-Learning" initiative.
A new phase of the project started in September. The program is implemented as part of the national project "Youth and Children" with the support of the Dobro.rf platform and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia. It is aimed at developing volunteer activity among students and helps them become involved in public life through concrete actions.
"The 'service-learning' methodology is an opportunity to gain professional experience through social projects, solving current, socially important tasks in partnership with NGOs, government bodies and business," Ekaterina Lebedeva noted.
She added that this approach helps young people "not only to learn, but also to change the world for the better." The program also contributes to the formation of civic-mindedness and respect for traditional Russian values.
