An investigation has been completed in the Nizhny Novgorod Region into the first criminal case related to dropper activity — the handing over of bank cards for participation in illegal financial operations, the regional office of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported.
According to the investigation, a young man, who found himself in a difficult financial situation, responded to an offer to earn money posted in a messenger. Under this scheme he was offered payment to hand over bank cards issued in other people's names.
To fulfill the terms of the deal he persuaded a 15-year-old acquaintance to open a bank card and provide access to the personal online account. After receiving the card, the suspect transferred it to a third person whose identity has not yet been established. He received 1,000 rubles for this.
Investigators gathered a sufficient body of evidence confirming the young man's guilt. The criminal case has been sent to court.
The police reminded that on July 5, 2025, amendments to the legislation concerning dropper activity came into force in Russia. According to part 5 of Article 187 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, the handing over of a card for the purpose of its use in unlawful activities is punishable by up to six years' imprisonment.
At the same time, as the Ministry of Internal Affairs clarified, a person who commits such a crime for the first time may be exempted from criminal liability if he actively assists the investigation and voluntarily reports other participants in the scheme.
Earlier it was reported that another case of dropper activity had been opened in the Nizhny Novgorod Region.
