In the settlement of Voskresenskoye in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, the A.N. Paikov Central Library, named after Hero of the Soviet Union A.N. Paikov, opened after being equipped to a model standard. The library's outfitting was carried out as part of the national project "Family," the Ministry of Culture of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast reports.
The library is housed in a two-story building located in the central, historic part of the settlement. Within walking distance are a children's art school and a general education school, a museum, architectural monuments, and a recreation area, including the embankment of the Vetluga River.
"Now there is a true library center in the very heart of Voskresenskoye, because last year we opened a model children's library in the same building using regional budget funds. And this is another example of a comprehensive approach, since the entire building was extensively renovated for the modernization of libraries, which involved a large amount of work: the façade and roof were repaired, utilities were replaced, and the interior layout was reorganized. All this made it possible to create conditions for comfortable work for library staff and readers. It is already clear that the renovated library will lead an interesting, eventful life. As early as 2024, colleagues became participants in the 'Genius of Place' project, actively engaging young people in their activities; they operate under the 'Pushkin Card' program and are already preparing an application for a PFKI grant as part of the current application campaign," said Natalya Sukhanova, Minister of Culture of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast.
The major renovation of the building was carried out under the state program "Development of Culture of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast" using regional and local budget funds. Thanks to the reorganization, the space of the lending department and reading room was expanded, and the space of the Legal Information Center was redesigned and made accessible to people with limited mobility.
About 15 million rubles from the federal budget were allocated to equip the A.N. Paikov Central Library to the model standard. With these funds, new furniture was purchased, as well as equipment for photo and video shooting, including lighting equipment and a chroma key, and virtual reality headsets. A 50-seat conference hall for mass events is equipped with a video wall, a modern sound system, a mixing console and a set of microphones.
For the convenience of visually impaired visitors, the library is equipped with a workstation with an electronic video magnifier, a portable tactile Braille display, and a "Talking Book" device. For publishing activities, booklet makers and a laminator, a contactless scanner and a large-format printer were purchased. The library's collection was supplemented with more than 4,000 new editions, which is about 20% of the library's total collection.
"I am confident the renovated library will satisfy a wide range of readers' requests and needs. Residents of Voskresenskoye have access to an updated book collection, cozy areas for reading and study, and equipped workstations for independent activities. It is clear that everything here has been done with care for those who visit the library. I think the number of readers will now increase significantly, and the settlement's residents will appreciate all the advantages of the library renovated to the model standard, its convenience and quality," said Alexander Zapevalov, head of local government of the Voskresenskoye municipal district.
Recall that last year a central children's library equipped to the model standard opened in Voskresenskoye in the same building. The children's library equipment was funded by regional funds — about 10 million rubles were allocated for these purposes.
Since 2025, at the direction of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, new national projects have been launched in the country. Cultural initiatives have been included in the federal project "Family Values and Cultural Infrastructure" of the national project "Family." These include activities to re-equip cinemas, municipal libraries, regional and municipal theaters and museums, Pushkin Card activities and a number of new initiatives. Overall, the national project "Family" is aimed at supporting and developing family values, creating comfortable conditions for the formation of healthy and happy families. The main goal of the new national project is for every family in Russia to have the opportunity to realize its potential, ensuring the harmonious development of all its members.
