Construction of a new sports and fitness complex (FOK) has begun on Rodionov Street in Nizhny Novgorod. The work is being carried out under a concession agreement, the Ministry of Sports of the Nizhny Novgorod Region said in response to citizens' questions on the social network VKontakte.
The discussion was prompted by a message from local resident Anton F., who complained about the lack of sports facilities in Verkhniye Pechery. According to him, children have nowhere to practice sports. The ministry acknowledged that the problem is pressing and added that it is considering the possibility of building sports grounds in that and nearby neighborhoods.
"The key task now is the construction of the FOK on Rodionov Street. As part of the implementation of the concession agreement, the concessionaire has already begun construction," the ministry said.
The history of this project dates back to 2014. At that time construction had only just begun, but due to various problems the deadlines were repeatedly shifted. In 2021 the developer was declared bankrupt, and at that point the facility was only 7% complete.
Construction has now resumed. The new FOK will be located near the Fantastika shopping center, next to building No. 187. The building will consist of two parts: one will house a multipurpose sports hall with stands, and the other a covered rink with artificial ice.
The total area of the complex is about 7,000 square meters. A building permit was issued in September. According to experts' estimates, the project will cost 1.3 billion rubles. Funds will come from the federal and regional budgets, as well as from the investor.
