October 25 is celebrated as World Pizza Day — a dish that unites millions of people around the world. Pizza is not just food; it is an entire culture that can be prepared in many different variations. However, to enjoy this Italian delicacy without harming your health, it is important to know how to choose a quality pizza and consider its impact on your diet.

Rospotrebnadzor specialists explained how to choose a tasty, high-quality pizza.

When choosing a pizza, whether in a restaurant, café or store, pay attention to several key points:

      - Appearance. The dough should be golden but not burnt, the edges even and crispy, and the cheese fully melted and stretchy.

      - Taste and aroma. The pizza should not have off-flavors or odors indicating the use of spoiled or low-quality ingredients.

      - Ingredients and sauce. Vegetables should be fresh, meat aromatic and free of unpleasant smells, and the sauce rich but not bitter.

      - Packaging. In a store, make sure the packaging is intact and contains information on the production date and storage conditions.

      - Label. Check the product’s ingredients, the presence of flavorings and preservatives. Pay attention to the caloric value and the balance of proteins, fats and carbohydrates.

If you are making pizza at home, you can make it healthier. To enjoy pizza without overloading your diet, follow these tips:

      - Thin crust or whole-grain base. Choose pizza with a thin base or dough made from whole-grain flour to reduce calorie content.

      - Tomato sauce instead of creamy sauce. Tomato sauce is a healthier option than a fatty cream sauce. It contains fewer calories and more beneficial nutrients.

      - Less cheese, more vegetables. Choose mozzarella or other low-fat cheeses. Add more fresh vegetables, such as spinach, peppers and tomatoes, to increase vitamins and fiber.

      - Lean proteins. Use chicken, turkey or seafood as protein toppings.

      - Portion control. Divide the pizza into several portions or pair it with a large vegetable salad.
