The organizers of a network of illegal casinos in Nizhny Novgorod heard their sentences.

      A verdict has been handed down in Nizhny Novgorod against nine regional residents found guilty of organizing and conducting illegal gambling, the regional office of the Investigative Committee reported.

      According to it, from 2020 to 2024 members of an interethnic organized group opened gaming clubs in Nizhny Novgorod, Arzamas and Dzerzhinsk, disguising them as betting points of one of the bookmakers.

      Investigators and law enforcement officers established that the gambling network operated without permits and outside specially designated zones. Computer equipment and the Internet were used for the games.

      Over four years the group members earned more than 97 million rubles from illegal gambling. In January 2024 their activities were halted through the joint efforts of the Investigative Committee, the regional FSB directorate, the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Main Directorate for Economic Security and Anti-Corruption of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. Gaming equipment was seized during searches.

      The court found all nine guilty. The organizer received a three-year term in a general-regime penal colony. Three other participants will be sent to a colony for terms ranging from 2 years 6 months to 2 years 8 months. The remaining five received suspended sentences — from 2 years to 2 years 6 months. The suspects' property worth more than 93 million rubles was confiscated. In addition, a criminal-law measure in the form of confiscation of property worth more than 93 million rubles was applied to them.

      It should be noted that in May a court handed down verdicts to 14 organizers of gambling clubs that operated in the center of Nizhny Novgorod.
