Andrey Dakhin: "Nizhny Novgorod Oblast has become the leader in the number of summer children's camps"

      The Nizhny Novgorod region has for the third time become the best in Russia at organizing the summer wellness campaign. Doctor of Philosophical Sciences, Professor at the Nizhny Novgorod Institute of Management — a branch of RANEPA, Andrey Dakhin, reflects on the Nizhny Novgorod region’s leadership in this area and the prospects for developing children’s summer recreation:

      "The Forum demonstrated new levels of quality organization of children’s summer recreation, health improvement and education, which serve as examples to emulate, target models that can guide everyone involved in organizing children’s health and recreational activities and education," the expert noted.

      He emphasized that a nationwide, distributed network of children’s summer institutions is taking shape in Russia. Dakhin added that the Nizhny Novgorod region and other prizewinning regions that received high marks are part of the framework, anchor contour of this network.

      "The significance of the whole system is that it is a fundamental infrastructural resource for forming an all-Russian civic identity among youth — the basic foundation of unifying Russian patriotism. To strengthen this educational function it is necessary to activate the summer mobility of school-age youth, so that summer trips of primary school pupils within their own region, as they move into higher grades, could evolve into trips to other regions. Ten school years of such trips is an invaluable experience of practical realization that the status of a citizen of Russia gives a person the opportunity to see firsthand the many wonders of the country’s nature and the gems of its culture," Dakhin said.

      In Dakhin’s view, the Nizhny Novgorod region can become a pioneer in creating special "interregional" summer sessions, composed entirely of guests from different regions of Russia, especially since the region has good experience with "Lazurny" and other similar centers.

      "The framework contour of the network of children’s wellness and recreation sites is identified annually by the All-Russian Forum of Organizers of Children’s Recreation and Health Improvement. On this basis the Nizhny Novgorod region can become the initiator of building a contour of interregional agreements on mutual exchanges of groups of children, accepted by regions from one another for the organization of summer recreation. From being the best at the exhibition, the Nizhny Novgorod region can move to being the best by the number of the region’s children who visited other regions of the country and by the number of children from other regions accepted for summer recreation locally," concluded the Doctor of Philosophical Sciences.
