On standby: a photo report from the center of Sormovo, where a new metro station will be built.

      Residents of the Sormovsky district in Nizhny Novgorod have been waiting a long time for the metro extension. The issue was discussed for many years, and only in 2022, when funds were allocated for design, did the matter finally move forward. A correspondent for IA “V gorode N” found out what the site where the new station will appear looks like now and what is happening there.

      Recall that several sites were considered for the extension of the Sormovsko-Meshcherskaya line. In particular, it was proposed to locate the station on Kominterna Street near the "Daryino" stop or on Yubileiny Boulevard at its intersection with Kominterna Street. But the third option was chosen — on Stantsionnaya Street, a six-minute walk from the center of Sormovo.

      The advantage of this location, according to experts, is its proximity to the railway, which in the future will make it possible to create a transport interchange hub, as well as the absence of major utility relocations, an incentive for further development of the area, and shorter construction times. The only drawback turned out to be its relative distance from the center of Sormovo — 450 meters.

      The construction of the new station required the acquisition of several hundred structures. These are mostly non-residential buildings and garages. However, not all owners of the latter are ready to part with their property for the sum offered. More than a hundred structures had to be acquired through the courts.

      One of the station entrances was planned to be located near building No. 50 on Stantsionnaya Street. The railway is nearby, which is convenient for those arriving by commuter trains — you can immediately transfer to the metro using the so-called "dry feet" principle, that is, without going outside.

      Right now the area near the station is built up with garages. Demolition work has not yet begun. However, it is clear that some owners have already vacated their structures. Several garages stand empty, their metal doors removed. The owners took all valuables, leaving only unwanted junk.

      Further down Stantsionnaya Street the picture is no better. There used to be auto repair shops, car washes, and stores here, but now most of the premises are empty. Broken windows and missing doors testify to this. In some places you can see banners announcing that the service has moved. There are dumps in places. No dismantling work is visible yet either.

      Behind the garages hide quite solid brick houses that are abandoned and, it would seem, will also be demolished.

      The next two metro exits are to appear by building No. 76b on Stantsionnaya Street. At the moment this site is a parking lot. There is an auto repair shop nearby — the only one still operating.

      Another exit from the station is planned near building No. 4 on Dmitry Pavlov Street. Right now there is a vacant lot there, and a little further on are multi-storey apartment buildings.

      Garages will also be acquired on Kalashnikova and Kominterna streets, where construction work will also be carried out. No signs of activity are visible yet — the structures stand as they have.

      According to MKU "GKMMiD", building inspections of structures falling within the construction zone of the new metro station are currently underway, as well as design work, approval of technical solutions, and preparation of documentation for state examination — in short, work that is invisible to the average person but necessary. Specialists are also studying the underground soils beneath the channel of the Levinka River, where the running tunnels between the "Burevestnik" and "Sormovskaya" metro stations will be located in the future. Actual construction will begin only after all these steps are completed and positive conclusions are obtained.
