VC "Gorky" snatched victory in the opening match of the season.

      October 20, 2025, 11:38 — Sport. Volleyball players of the Nizhny Novgorod club "Gorky" began the new season of the Russian championship with a hard-fought home victory over Belgorod's "Belogorye", the bronze medalist of the past two years.

      The match was tense and unpredictable. The home team took the first set by a narrow margin — 26:24. However, in the second and third sets the initiative completely shifted to the visitors, who confidently won both by the same score — 25:14.

      Nevertheless, Andrey Dranishnikov's team managed to regroup and restore the suspense. In the fourth set the Nizhny Novgorod side seized the initiative and leveled the score, then finished off the opponent in the shortened deciding set — 15:12.

      The standout of the match was opposite Pavel Zheleznyakov. He scored 22 points.

      Gorky will play its next match (6+) on October 23 in Kazan against the local "Zenit".

      Recall that during the off-season, following a vote by Nizhny Novgorod residents, the volleyball club ASK was renamed "Gorky".
