A resident of the Nizhny Novgorod region was sentenced to three years in prison for stealing an ambulance. This was reported by the press service of the Diveyevsky Interdistrict Court.
The incident occurred on 6 August 2025. A 60-year-old man with prior convictions, while intoxicated, stole an ambulance from the premises of Pervomayskaya Hospital. He drove to Sadovaya Street in the city of Pervomaysk, where he was detained by police officers. He explained his actions at the time by saying he wanted to make a dramatic entrance on a date with the lady of his heart.
The court found that previously, in August 2019, the defendant had already been held administratively liable for refusing to undergo a medical examination for intoxication.
This time the man was found guilty under Part 1 of Article 166 (vehicle theft) and Part 1 of Article 264.1 (operating a vehicle while intoxicated by a person previously subjected to administrative punishment) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
The defendant fully admitted his guilt and expressed remorse. After the verdict was read, he was taken into custody in the courtroom. The verdict has not yet come into legal force.
Earlier it was reported that the Supreme Court allowed confiscation of vehicles for repeat drunk driving.
