In Russia, the possibility of granting single fathers of large families the right to early retirement, similar to that already available to mothers of large families, is being discussed. The initiative was proposed by the head of the State Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans’ Affairs, Yaroslav Nilov, in an interview with 360.ru.
According to Nilov, the question of extending benefits to fathers has been raised repeatedly on various platforms, including the State Duma. He emphasized that the existing benefits for mothers of large families concern not only the fact of giving birth to children but also their upbringing, which makes it necessary to provide similar opportunities for single fathers.
However, the initiative sparked controversy. Many women ask why fathers should receive benefits for the birth of children when they do not give birth to them.
Nilov stressed that this is about different aspects of participation in the birth and upbringing of children. Benefits should be granted only to single fathers who, due to life circumstances, independently raise three or more children in the absence of the mother.
Thus, the proposal is aimed at ensuring social justice and supporting fathers of large families who have found themselves in a difficult life situation. It will allow them, like mothers of large families, to take advantage of the benefits provided by pension legislation.
