A mobile operator was fined 1.2 million rubles in Nizhny Novgorod for allowing calls from spoofed numbers to pass through, the regional prosecutor’s office press service reported.

During an inspection of compliance with federal telecommunications law conducted by the Kanavinsky District prosecutor’s office, it was found that one of the mobile operators allowed two telephone calls originating from a foreign operator with a spoofed number to pass through its own equipment. Thus the company failed to fulfill its obligation to terminate the provision of communications services and to prevent the passage of traffic into its network, as required by law.

Based on the established facts, the prosecutor’s office initiated administrative offense proceedings against the legal entity under Part 2 of Article 13.2.1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation. The case concerns the operator’s failure to fulfill its obligation to block communications services and to prevent the passage of traffic in such cases.

Following the review of the prosecutor’s materials, the company was found guilty and held administratively liable. The court imposed fines on it totaling 1.2 million rubles.
