Alexander Kuritsyn, a participant in the Special Military Operation, met with schoolchildren from Nizhny Novgorod as part of the patriotic project "Heroes of the Motherland."

The event was organized by the Nizhny Novgorod regional branch of the All-Russian public movement “Volunteers of Victory.”

      The meeting was held as part of the regional patriotic project “Heroes of the Motherland,” aimed at the patriotic education of young people by presenting the stories of hero-defenders from the years of the Great Patriotic War, as well as from the special military operation and other armed conflicts. It is implemented with the support of the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region and the project “Heroes. Nizhny Novgorod Region.”

      Schoolchildren had the opportunity to speak personally with the SMO participant, ask him questions, and hear first-hand stories about real courage and love for the Motherland.

      Alexander was mobilized into the ranks of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and took part in combat operations in the Donbas. For personal courage, bravery, and selflessness displayed while carrying out his military duty, in 2024 he was awarded a high state honor — the Suvorov Medal. He is currently a participant in the “Heroes. Nizhny Novgorod Region” program.

      During an open conversation the hero shared his memories with the students, spoke about the difficulties faced by servicemen, and about the importance of support from their native land.

      “For me, lessons of courage with children are an interesting experience. They greatly help my return to society after front-line service. It is important that through concrete examples of heroism and self-sacrifice children form not an abstract but a deeply personal feeling of patriotism and pride in their country and its people. I am glad that I can contribute to this,” Alexander Kuritsyn said.

      “Such meetings are invaluable! They erase the distance between the front and the rear, allowing our children to see the real heroes of our time. We are grateful to Alexander Evgenyevich for his feat and for finding the time and strength to speak with the younger generation. This is the best lesson in patriotism and citizenship,” noted Maria Samodelkina, head of the Nizhny Novgorod regional branch of the All-Russian public movement “Volunteers of Victory.”

      The Volunteers of Victory project “Heroes of the Motherland” launched in the region on September 1, 2025 as part of the national project “Youth and Children.”

      Many more meetings with SMO participants lie ahead for Nizhny Novgorod schoolchildren and students. Fifty heroes of the special military operation, participants in the regional program “Heroes. Nizhny Novgorod Region,” are taking part in the project.

      Recall that the “Heroes. Nizhny Novgorod Region” program is aimed at the integration and employment of veterans of the special military operation within the system of public administration. In March 2025 an agreement on cooperation to implement this program was signed between the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA), and KUPNO.

      On March 31 registration for participation in the “Heroes. Nizhny Novgorod Region” program was completed. During the selection campaign 1,613 applications were received from Nizhny Novgorod residents.

      Based on the total scores from questionnaires, testing, online interviews and assessments, as well as the results of in-person interviews with the Deputy Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Andrey Gneushev, 60 participants were selected for the main educational program and 30 people were chosen for inclusion in the next program cohort upon their return to the region.

      On August 4, 2025 the official opening of training under the “Heroes. Nizhny Novgorod Region” program took place; the ceremony was attended by the Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Gleb Nikitin. Sixty people selected to participate in the educational program began their studies.
