The Moscow District Court of Nizhny Novgorod handed down a verdict to opposition activist Andrey Sorochkin, who killed his father. This was reported by the Investigative Directorate of the Russian Investigative Committee for the Nizhny Novgorod Region.
The crime was committed in an apartment on Minin Street in November 2024. A 62-year-old man strangled his 86-year-old parent, who was physically and due to his health unable to resist; he then took the body to a dacha, dismembered it and burned it. It later emerged that the killer was an activist and opposition figure. In 2022 he was fined 200,000 rubles for discrediting the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
The defendant in the criminal case (para. "v" of part 2 of article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) pleaded guilty. He was sentenced to 10 years in a maximum-security penal colony with an additional restriction of liberty for one and a half years.
Earlier it was reported that the man from Nizhny Novgorod had been sentenced to 29 years for the murder of a woman 30 years ago.
