08 October 2025 17:35 Incidents An elderly man died in a fire in the village of Lineyka in the Voznesensky District. The tragedy occurred on October 8, the press service of the Nizhny Novgorod EMERCOM reported.
The fire spread over 135 square meters. Fire crews quickly arrived at the scene and were able to contain and extinguish the blaze.
However, while clearing the rubble in one of the rooms, rescuers discovered the body of a man born in 1955. According to preliminary information, he lived in the house alone.
According to experts, the fire may have been caused by carelessness while smoking — most likely the man smoked in bed, which led to the ignition.
The agency also added that the deceased was due to turn 70 the next day.
Earlier it was reported that the Nizhny Novgorod prosecutor’s office is conducting an investigation into a large fire that occurred in the settlement of Bolshoye Murashkino.
