A court found a former employee of the Dzerzhinsky territorial department of general industrial supervision of the Volga–Oka Directorate of Rostechnadzor guilty of corruption-related crimes. The verdict was based on materials collected by investigators of the Investigative Committee for the Nizhny Novgorod Region.
Investigators established that the inspector acted in concert with the leadership and other employees of the agency. For an extended period he received bribes from representatives of training centers and interested parties. The total amount of illegal payments exceeded 15 million rubles.
In return, the official provided unlawful protection: expedited registration of documents outside the established procedure, as well as unhindered passing of industrial safety certification. He also facilitated the successful passing of exams on the rules for operating power installations.
The criminal scheme was uncovered thanks to joint actions by investigators of the Investigative Committee of Russia, operatives of the regional FSB directorate, and officers of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Nizhny Novgorod Region.
The court sentenced the former inspector to three years’ imprisonment to be served in a strict-regime penal colony. He was also deprived of the right to hold public office involving representative and organizational-administrative functions for five years.
Earlier it was reported that a former policeman in Nizhny Novgorod accepted a pit bike as a bribe from teenagers.
