An NNSU biologist named locations with porcini and chanterelles in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

      The head of the Department of Botany and Zoology at the Institute of Biology and Biomedicine of Nizhny Novgorod State University (NNSU), Candidate of Biological Sciences Ekaterina Vodeneeva, told the publication "Zhivyom v Nizhnem" where to collect porcini and chanterelles in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast.

      As the expert noted, the porcini is the most valuable of all cap mushrooms. It can be found from June through October on moderately moist, humus-rich soil in birch, oak, pine, spruce and mixed forests.

      The exact coordinates of fruitful clearings change from year to year and depend on the weather. But traditionally the most porcini are found in the northern part of the region in the Borsky, Semenovsky, Varnavinsky, Krasnobakovsky, Urensky and Shakhunsky districts. You can also fill whole baskets in the Volodarsky, Bogorodsky, Pavlovsky and Arzamassky districts.

      Mushroom pickers also highly prize chanterelles. They can be found in coniferous, deciduous and mixed forests — they grow in large patches. For chanterelles head to the Bogorodsky, Semenovsky and Voznesensky districts.
