      VTB warns that fraudsters are collecting personal data — Russians' photos and voices — to create deepfakes. Such audio or video recordings are unable to bypass the protection of banking applications, so criminals use them to deceive the relatives, friends and colleagues of potential "victims."

      How fraudsters collect audio and video recordings:

      They call people via video link and record the person's image and voice during the conversation. Under the pretext of paying for a service or filling out an application, they demand identity confirmation: turn on the camera and show your face from all angles, or, while looking into the camera, wave your hand.

      VTB specialists emphasize that banking biometric services are resistant to deepfakes, even if they are made based on data collected in such scenarios. When confirming an operation in a banking application — for example, a loan application — the customer's image is analyzed by complex algorithms using artificial intelligence across more than 2,000 parameters, including checks for deepfakes, masks and photos used in place of a real person.

      VTB warns about simple rules that will prevent fraudsters from obtaining your biometrics:

      - Do not follow suspicious links and do not give camera and microphone access to unfamiliar or unverified services;

      - Do not confirm your identity via video calls or apps if you did not initiate such actions;

      - Use biometrics only in official banking apps and Gosuslugi;

      - Remember that no government agencies or companies call clients via video calls and require identity confirmation there.
