Construction of the Ice Palace on the Strelka in Nizhny Novgorod is nearing completion. As of early October, the facility’s readiness is about 96%, a correspondent of NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" found out.
Recall that construction work began in 2022. The facility is planned to be commissioned by the end of the current year.
As noted by Igor Ishchenko, General Director of the Development Corporation of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, commissioning work is currently underway at the arena: installation of the terminal units of the ventilation systems, low-voltage and data networks and other engineering systems is being completed. Façade work is almost completely finished, its readiness is estimated at 99%.
State Duma deputy from the Nizhny Novgorod Region Yuri Stankevich, who inspected the facility, noted that the Palace makes an impression even at the finishing stage. In his opinion, the arena will become one of the best in Russia.
"I think the arena will be the pride of the region, without exaggeration. This is a landmark facility, the only one of its class that will be launched in the country this year and certainly next year, and maybe even in the next two years. So we are absolutely sure that the facility will be successful. We see how the ticket program is selling out, all season tickets have been purchased, all boxes have been bought out. The arena has not yet been commissioned, yet success, one could say, has already caught up with it," Ishchenko shared.
The Palace will become the "home" for the Nizhny Novgorod hockey club Torpedo. Special conditions are being created for the team: more than a hundred of Torpedo’s wishes were taken into account during project development, and the design drew on the experience of the best KHL and NHL arenas. The technical specification was formed by the former coach of the "Avtozavodtsy", Igor Larionov.
Players will have access not only to standard rooms but also to a classroom for theoretical lessons, a separate dining room with an autonomous kitchen, and a relaxation area. In short, everything the hockey players and coaching staff need for quality adaptation, rehabilitation and match preparation.
At the moment, interior finishing of most rooms has been completed. The home and away locker rooms are already ready to receive teams. However, it is still too early to hold a full-scale match.
The installation and setup of the scoreboard cube above the main rink is also complete. Various images are already being displayed there and on the media façade.
The interior of the arena is done in a monochrome palette, which will create a semi-dark effect during matches, focusing the attention of the 12,000 spectators on what happens on the ice.
The interiors are finished in white and Torpedo blue.
The ice arena is highly multifunctional and adapted for various sports: hockey, figure skating, curling and sledge hockey. In addition, the boards and rink dimensions can be transformed to meet specific competition requirements. Three ice rinks will be housed under one roof, creating conditions for both professional sport and youth sections.
The arena is fully adapted for sledge hockey competitions, including for participants with disabilities. Logistics and routes within the complex are arranged so that people with limited mobility can feel comfortable.
Moreover, the facility will also be in demand as a venue for concerts and exhibitions. Several food courts are provided, as well as infrastructure for comfortable recreation for families with children and people with disabilities. The Palace grounds will provide stable internet and full Wi‑Fi coverage.
"It is very important that this facility lives and develops. Issues of maintenance, timely modernization and proper care of the premises will come to the fore over time. And it is fundamentally important to create conditions so that both the club and the company that will manage the arena have opportunities for additional income. People are counting on or planning to hold events. There is a great demand for concerts and exhibition events, because in many ways this facility is unique for our Nizhny Novgorod Region," said Yuri Stankevich.
It was previously reported that the new Ice Palace was assigned an official address.
