About 140 participants of the “Your Own Business” project took part in a seminar on developing business competencies. The project is implemented by the regional Ministry of Industry, Trade and Entrepreneurship and the regional center “My Business” with the support of the branch of the “Defenders of the Fatherland” fund, the employment center “Rabota Rossii,” and the Labor and Employment Department of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, the Center for Social Innovation, and the Corporate University of the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region in accordance with the goals and objectives of the federal project “Small and Medium Enterprises” of the national project “Effective and Competitive Economy.”
Maxim Cherkasov, Minister of Industry, Trade and Entrepreneurship of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, noted that the cycle of seminars concluded with training events in the urban district of Sarov and the Gorodets municipal district. Nineteen project participants took part in those events.
“Training is the most important element of the ‘Your Own Business’ program. At the project’s start, participants studied the basics of entrepreneurship through an online course. Then, to expand their business competencies, we organized a series of seminars. These meetings were held on a cluster principle in different districts of the region, bringing together participants from several neighboring municipalities. Representatives from 38 districts of the region took part in these seminars. This format allowed participants not only to acquire the knowledge needed to develop their businesses, but also to get to know each other and work out collaboration options,” said Maxim Cherkasov.
The minister added that the next step for participants will be practical consolidation of the acquired knowledge in business games, where they will work on business plans for their ventures.
At the municipal seminars, participants familiarized themselves with the legal aspects of business, modern digital marketing tools, the basics of financial literacy, and the current government support programs.
One of the participants in the Sarov seminar was Dmitry Zubatov; he plans to open a business repairing car wheels. Dmitry already has entrepreneurial experience: before participating in “Your Own Business,” he successfully developed a project for building frame houses. However, in September 2023 Dmitry handed his business over to a partner to volunteer for the special military operation. He served for about two years in artillery and was a driver in the Alexander Nevsky assault brigade. In July 2025 Dmitry returned to his hometown of Arzamas and is now gradually adapting to civilian life.
“I first became acquainted with the work of the regional center ‘My Business’ while I was serving. As part of the ‘My Business Helps’ campaign, the center, together with Nizhny Novgorod entrepreneurs, regularly provided assistance to the brigade in which I served. Therefore, when I returned home, I immediately turned to the ‘My Business’ center as an entrepreneur. There they told me about the ‘Your Own Business’ program. In the project I am gaining useful knowledge for developing a business. Over the two years I served, many things changed: both in the legal field and in promotion methods. The training component of the project helps me keep up with the times. In addition, experts from the Sarov ‘My Business’ center connected me with the employment center, where they selected training necessary to start my business. At the beginning of October I will begin training in gas tungsten arc welding and will receive a specialist diploma in aluminum welding,” said Dmitry Zubatov.
The “Your Own Business” program will run until the end of November. A visit to the region’s industrial enterprises and business games are planned for participants. For the winners of the business games, staff from the “My Business” centers will develop individual development maps taking into account current government support measures. The authors of the 10 best projects will be able to receive one of the services related to website development, online store creation or other forms of product promotion, product certification, development of a brand book and business plan, etc., free of charge.

The national project “Effective and Competitive Economy,” initiated by Russian President Vladimir Putin, will become the main instrument for forming a new growth model. It includes federal projects aimed at developing small and medium-sized enterprises, increasing labor productivity, boosting investment activity, low-carbon development, and developing the state system of statistics and forecasting.
