The Ministry of Forestry of the Nizhny Novgorod Region reported that the cause of death of a participant in the "Forest Firefighting Biathlon-2025" is not directly related to taking part in the competition.
The ministry clarified that during a series of anti-fire tests one of the participants became unwell and lost consciousness. Rescuers immediately began administering first aid, but they were unable to save him.
The deceased served as the head of the Krasnobakovskaya Type 2 forest fire station, had extensive experience fighting forest fires and the appropriate professional training. The Ministry of Forestry expressed its sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.
The ministry also stressed that participant safety remains an absolute priority: "Each event is staffed by professional medics, rescuers and qualified personnel on duty."
