Former first deputy mayor of Nizhny Novgorod Ilya Shtokman has been remanded in custody for two months, the Telegram channel Ni Mash reports.

On the morning of September 26 it became known that the ex-official had been detained in Sochi, and that same evening the Moskovsky District Court of Nizhny Novgorod chose a preventive measure for him.

The lawyer asked the judge to place his client under house arrest because he has health problems. However, it was decided to place Shtokman in a pre-trial detention facility.

Details of the criminal case have not been disclosed, but a source at NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" said that the former deputy mayor is accused of taking a bribe.

Recall that in September 2022 Ilya Shtokman went as a volunteer to the special military operation (SVO) while remaining a municipal employee. In that capacity he even met with the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, who wished him to continue his career in civilian life. In August 2025 Shtokman resigned from the administration.

Earlier reports mentioned the arrest of Andrey Levdikov, who is accused of bribery. Until May 2025 he served as head of MKU "GUMMiD."
