A series of thefts in shopping centers in Nizhny Novgorod has been solved by detectives from the city police department's criminal investigation unit. Over the course of a month the perpetrator stole a mobile phone and jewelry with a total value of more than 290,000 rubles, the regional Main Directorate reported.
The first report was filed with Police Department No. 2 by a sales consultant at a mobile phone shop located in a shopping center on Moskovskoye Highway. According to the woman, a man took advantage of a moment when she was distracted by another customer and secretly stole a mobile phone worth 22,990 rubles from an unlocked display case.
As a result of operational-search measures, police detained a 36-year-old resident of the Kanavinsky district with a prior conviction. He admitted his guilt and, during further questioning by detectives, spoke about other thefts.
It was established that the man also stole a gold chain worth 88,000 rubles from a jewelry store in the Kanavinsky district by taking advantage of a slightly open display case and using a wire. In the same way he stole a 9-gram gold bracelet worth 182,290 rubles in the Sormovsky district.
Criminal cases have been opened on all counts under Part 1 of Article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (theft).
