A scientist from NNGU who devoted more than half a century to the study of AI has passed away.

      A prominent specialist in the field of artificial intelligence, Professor Alexander Nikolayevich Gorban of Lobachevsky Nizhny Novgorod State University has passed away at the age of 74. Information about this appeared on NNSU’s official Telegram channel.

      Over his many-year career, Alexander Nikolayevich worked at the university for more than five decades. He held the position of chief research fellow at the Research Laboratory for Advanced Methods of Data Analysis and was awarded the title of Honorary Doctor of NNSU.

      Professor Gorban led the university’s most important scientific initiatives. Among them was the mega-grant “Scalable Networks of AI Systems for Analyzing Data of Increasing Dimensionality” (2018–2020), as well as the project “Reliable and Logically Transparent Artificial Intelligence: Technology, Verification and Application for Socially Significant and Infectious Diseases” (2020–2022).

      “The passing of Alexander Nikolayevich Gorban is a tremendous loss for all of us,” NNSU noted.

      Earlier, the death of the well-known Nizhny Novgorod physician and educator Arkady Leonov was reported.
